And while we are here I may as well add these ones too!
Fandango interviewed Rachelle during a visit to the set of New Moon earlier in the year, here’s what they say:
On our New Moon Vancouver set visit, we met up with Rachelle Lefevre, who plays Victoria, a vampire hell-bent on killing Bella for the death of her lover. She spent the day with her little sister, showing her around and introducing her to the other actors. When we caught up with her, she seemed genuinely excited for her role – and her future part in Eclipse.
It seems unlikely she’d purposely let her role in indie film Barney’s Version take precedence over the Twilight Saga, and made it clear to us that she needed to be available to film Eclipse. Read on for details on the scheduling conflict and her stunt-filled, spoiler scenes.
Q. Do you know what you’re doing after New Moon?
Lefevre: No, I have a couple of things in the mix right now, but it looks like I’m gonna get to do something in between this and Eclipse, but it’s a scheduling thing. Nothing is confirmed yet ’cause you gotta be available for the third movie.Q. Have you already thought about your scenes in Eclipse?
Lefevre: Yeah, I’ve started to go back to “Eclipse” (the book) now, but I’m trying to just go all the way through New Moon without getting too much ahead of myself. I have three days (of filming) left, then it’s back to “Eclipse.”Q. Do you think you’re still going to lose your head?
Lefevre: Yeah, well, I sort of feel like you can’t really change that. [Laughs] You know what’s great, when we see fans a lot of the time, they have me sign certain pages. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve signed the page where I lose my head. [Laughs] I’m like, “Really? This is the page you want me to sign?” It’s either that or the scene where we get introduced for the first time. So I’m always signing copies of “Twilight” or “Eclipse.” There was a time when I knew the page numbers.Rachelle Lefevre, Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser at the Gaslamp Theater in San Diego. Q. How would you compare Chris Weitz’s direction with Catherine Hardwicke’s?
Lefevre: For Catherine, it was all [about] establishing everything. It was literally bringing the world to life. She’s very raw. She’s very high energy. Chris is much calmer and quieter. He just has a different style. Also, he’s come into a world that somebody went through to bring to life. He didn’t just show up and go, “All right guys—It’s Chris Weitz’s Twilight now.” He completely respected that somebody else had laid the foundations, and he was like, “Here’s where I’m going to take it within the realm of what’s already been established.”Q. How will New Moon be different?
Lefevre: Now what you get to do is watch the real struggle. Never mind figuring out who everybody is and figuring out who the actors are in terms of what you had in your imagination versus who they cast. Now that the world is set, you get to watch a really, really, horrifically gut-wrenching love triangle and a real struggle. It’s so character driven. At its heart, I really do think it’s a coming-of-age story, more than just a boy-meets-girl romance—which was beautiful—but not as complicated as it gets now that Jacob is really in the mix.Q. Is Victoria still barefoot in New Moon?
Lefevre: Stephenie gave permission for me to be wearing shoes because there was so much stunt work that it would have really jeopardized our safety. Stephenie always has to have a reason for everything, so there was a whole conversation about why, and if I should be allowed to wear shoes. The idea was that the barefoot thing was something they all did together—Victoria, James and Laurent. Now Victoria’s on her own and she’s a hunter, out for Bella. I insisted that if I wear shoes, they be like military of some kind to symbolize that I was on a mission, so I’m wearing combat boots.Taylor Lautner and Rachelle Lefevre at the Comic-Con’s Twilight Special Screening in San Diego, California. Q. What’s the stunt work like?
Lefevre: I’m 25 feet up most days. I’m absolutely terrified when I’m up there. You’re like, “Wow, I don’t know how I’m gonna bring myself to jump from here, this freefall leap.” And then they say “action” and you just do it. Anytime I’m on the ground it’s literally just running and jumping and chasing. No magic carpet this time. I’ve been filming the same sequence for two and a half weeks. We had a cast dinner last night, and everybody was like, “Where have you been?” I see them all the time at night but I never see them during the day. I’m like, “Oh, you guys don’t know, but we’re making a whole other movie in the woods, like half an hour away.” [Laughs]Q. What can you share about the underwater scenes?
Lefevre: I spent six hours in a pool doing all the underwater stuff. They did this amazing stunt where Bella gets caught in the tidal wave. It was incredible, because there was no CGI involved in that at all. They literally pumped 2,000 gallons of water in those massive, rectangular cargo-like containers you put on the back of trains. First they did it with the stunt double and then with Kristen’s photo double. They pulled the hatch and she got pummeled with a massive tidal wave. You could literally see her spinning; they just filmed until she got spit out.Q. Did you get to meet the wolf pack?
Lefevre: I met them at some of the rehearsals and a cast dinner, but I haven’t really worked with them. At a group dinner, I turned around and they were all sitting together. They seem like really nice guys, and it’s funny because they were instantly a pack.Q. Do the same friendships resume when you come back to a sequel production?
Lefevre: Yeah, it honestly just picked up where we left off. It was a very egoless set. The thing that’s a relief is that everybody stayed the same. We may be able to just walk out and get a cab whereas Rob has to do CIA evasive maneuvers to meet us at the same restaurant, but when we get to the restaurant and we sit down, everything’s exactly the same.
Peter Facinelli, always the nice guy talks about how, even though he is saddened by Rachelle Lefevre’s departure, he will be welcoming Bryce Dallas Howard to the cast and hopes that fans will too!
According to E! Online’s Marc Malkin:
Rachelle Lefevre and Summit Entertainment’s fangs are retracting a little bit today—at least in public, that is.
I’m told the actress formerly known as Twilight’s Victoria isn’t planning on releasing any more statements like the one she sent me yesterday. Same for Summit—the corporate lips are sealed.
Why? Because now the bloody mess is apparently being hashed out by lawyers.
What’s on the table? Read on to find out…
In short, Lefevre wants her money. Summit is arguing she’s due nothing because the studio insists she’s in breach of contract for signing on for the indie flick Barney’s Version.
“Rachelle’s contract says she’s allowed to do smaller projects like Barney’s Version,” one source said.
Meanwhile, her Twilight and New Moon costars are “devastated,” said another source. “As nice and lovely as Bryce [Dallas Howard] is, they feel like a family member has been taken from them.”
But don’t expect them to go public with too much anti-Summit talk. As my gossiping cohorts over at The Awful Truth point out, Lefevre’s dismissal sends a very strong message—or warning—not to mess with the studio.
Sources also tell me that shortly after Summit announced Lefevre’s dismissal, the rest of the cast was told not to elaborate on the circumstances to the media, beyond repeating that it was due to a scheduling conflict.
“But that was before the Rachelle and Summit statements yesterday,” a Twilight insider said. “Who knows what they’ll ask them to say now.”
Below is Summit’s full statement:
We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.
- Ms. Lefevre’s representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August.
- If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes “passionate,” about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.
- It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to BARNEY’S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.
- Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE’s principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.
- Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.
The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to the other project – which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment – makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.
Access Hollywood got Rachelle’s reaction to the recasting of Victoria, it seems that she was just as shocked as we were:
“I was stunned by Summit’s decision to recast the role of Victoria for ‘Eclipse,’” Rachelle said in a statement to Access Hollywood.
“I was fully committed to the ‘Twilight’ saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria,” Rachelle continued, explaining the turn of events that led to the casting change. “I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules. My commitment to ‘Barney’s Version’ is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse.’ Although the production schedule for ‘Eclipse’ is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for ‘Eclipse,’ never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”
The star concluded her statement with a regretful tone.
“I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the ‘Twilight’ audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate. I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I’ve received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit’s surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of ‘Eclipse’ only the very best,” she said.

Thanks to Twilight Novel Novice!
“Making the most of a sunny afternoon, Rachelle Lefevre and Jamie Thomas King were spotted out on a lunch date in Santa Monica yesterday (June 30).
The “Twilight” babe and her “Tudors” beau looked to be thoroughly enjoying each other’s company as they dined at Joans on 3rd while the paparazzi fired away.
At one point, Rachelle and JTK got a bit playful as Miss Lefevre attempted to feed her date from across the table, resulting in a big laugh from both of them.
And as they left, Rachelle looked embarrassed to discover that they’d been watched the whole time, while Jamie Thomas carried a little white puppy.”
